Billed by media as a refreshing take on music and the star to watch on the international entertainment arena, the positive, charismatic young woman is the new talk of the town after the release of her
hot debut single Good Man. Born Arita Rachel Edmund on the island of Tobago, ARITA's parents and grandparents realized that she was musically inclined at just age three.
Her childhood fascination with instruments awakened her musical talents and laid a solid foundation for cultivating her artistic acumen. Calypso music permeated her Trinbagonian community and exploration
of this genre broadened ARITA's budding talent and interest in other genres of music. Indeed, ARITA counts as her family Calypso Icon, Cro Cro (her uncle) and
Lady Ibis (her grandmother). With Calypso running in her veins, in 2005, ARITA won the Junior Calyspo NJAC and
TUCO competition, mesmerizing the audience with a soul-stirring composition she co-wrote about the scars of incest called a "Victim's Cry".
At age eleven, ARITA gave her life to Christ and continued to pursue her passion for music, playing several instruments including drums, keyboard, guitar and bass while
participating in Church events. This life changing and defining moment led the songstress to fully embrace her passion for music as her prowess as an artist rose to the forefront. She devoted her adolescent
years towards refining and mastering her craft competing in numerous talent shows. Inspiration from the musical icons such as Etta James (her favorite),
Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Sade, Selena, Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley helped sculpt her musical direction and her intrinsic God-given ability
helped hone her unique sound. “My music must move my audiences, their hearts first, but also mind, body and soul and take them to a better place, leaving them yearning for more,” says ARITA, on the vision
for her budding music career.
Multi-talented, with beautifully stunning features ARITA also became a top model in Trinidad & Tobago, being featured in numerous publications and modeling for most of the
top designers, including Anya Ayoung Chee, Heather Jones, Meiling, Dexter Jennings, Claudia Pegus and international designers such as Romeo Bryan.
As if that wasn't enough, ARITA is also an accomplished athlete, as a Basketball point guard, captain of her school team for 5 years and rewarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) five consecutive years,
leading her team to Country Championships. In essence, ARITA's talent's and gifts has no boundaries.
