Consumers now have another brand to choose from when purchasing purified, bottled water.
TEMPO Water, the product of the TEMPO music channel, is now available in Antigua and Barbuda.
Speaking to the Antigua Sun last Friday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of TEMPO, Frederick Morton Jr., said TEMPO Water is an extension of the group’s positive message and this time around they are “promoting healthy living by drinking more water.”
He said there are a number of diseases throughout the region that are caused by the fact that we have unhealthy diets, aided by a regular intake of sugary substances.
“At current the average person’s diet does not consume a lot of water hence we are plagued with a number of diseases and other related illnesses; so TEMPO’s aim is to encourage Caribbean people to drink more water.”
Morton noted that "diabetes and child obesity rates in the region are “extremely high” and in that regard, “the idea was that TEMPO would put its brand behind something that was life sustaining and water is life.”
Emphasising the importance of water, Morton noted that was the first thing Haiti called for after the earthquake on 12 Jan.
This he said further emphasises that water is vital for our survival.
“Our intake of water in the Caribbean is far below what is required and with the TEMPO brand we are hoping to encourage people to drink more water because it is required to promote good health.
“We want to encourage all Caribbean people, the young adults to the more mature, to include water as a part of their daily supplement, and particularly children because we want the next generation, the TEMPO generation, to be healthy.
"Children must know that if they want to grow healthy and live long water must be a part of their diet.”
Besides the health benefits to be derived, Morton also noted that once the TEMPO Water is sold locally, Antigua stands to benefit because the water is manufactured by the Antigua Distillery Ltd.
Sales and Market Executive of the Antigua Distillery Ltd., Calbert Francis, said the company is happy to partner with TEMPO.
"He noted that the TEMPO brand will be tested locally and also in Canada, as is customary, and consumers will be able to enjoy “pure and great tasting water.”
Meanwhile, Morton said with the increase in violence across the region and Antigua not being an exception, the group hopes to bring its anti-violence initiate Badness Outta Style to Antigua.
Although this is still in the negotiation stage, Morton hopes it can become a reality.
“We have a lot of violence in the region and we have to face the fact that is it real.
“I keep hearing that youth violence in Antigua is getting to some unacceptable levels and we would really like to bring our programme here and work along with the officials to reduce violence.”
Morton said TEMPO has received a lot of testimonials about Badness Outta Style, noting he would “love to bring this “positiveness” to classrooms in Antigua.
"Hopefully, this can be done shortly so we can have less violence in our young people.”
TEMPO channel was launched in 2005 and is currently aired in 28 islands. Its focus is “to unite the region and bring us together as Caribbean people and placing us on a quality platform for the world to see.”

TEMPO Water, a new brand of purified, bottled water, is now available in leading supermarkets in Antigua & Barbuda.
The product is a brand of the TEMPO music channel and was developed from the main objectives of the company, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Morton said.
“… The whole idea is that TEMPO is about bringing quality and showing Caribbean people that they are quality people and water is no different,” Morton said yesterday on OBSERVER AM. “The brand is strong enough to now expand in different areas …
“Folks can now go into the grocery store, go into the restaurants, go into the bars and if they want to revive the tempo, pick up the tempo, feel the tempo, they just have to order a TEMPO Water,” he added.
Morton said he is hoping to use the product as a means of encouragement for individuals in Antigua & Barbuda and across the region to consume more water, as many infirmities in the Caribbean come as a result of high sugar intake.
The TEMPO representative added that supporting the brand would in turn benefit the country because the water is manufactured by the Antigua Distillery Ltd.
Sales and Marketing Executive of the Antigua Distillery Ltd. Calbert Francis said the company has welcomed the partnership with TEMPO.
Assuring the public that TEMPO Water is of the same quality as its other product, Oasis, he said: "Our water is the only locally manufactured water that is both tested by independent, local bodies and also in Canada, so you know what you’re getting is pretty much pure and great tasting.
“That’s what you get with our water and that’s exactly what you’re going to get with TEMPO,” Francis added.
Questioned on what sets TEMPO Water apart from other products, Morton said the manufacturer speaks to the quality.
According to the TEMPO CEO, an official launch of the product will be held at a later date and an event will more than likely be scheduled on the island.
Hinting on future projects, the channel’s representative said the company may come to Antigua & Barbuda during its school tour, which it airs on the programme, Badness Outta Style. The show is part of the company’s anti-violence initiative, he said.
Morton further intimated that “something very strong is going to be coming out of Antigua for TEMPO in 2010,” and there’s a possibility that it could be a television show.
TEMPO channel was launched in 2005 and is currently aired in 28 Caribbean islands.
“It was founded on the premise that Caribbean people are the greatest people in the world and deserve to be spotlighted," Morton said.
TEMPO introduces TEMPO Water......For water is Life!
A bedrock principle of TEMPO’s mission is to help educate and promote a healthy lifestyle among Caribbean people, particularly the youth.
Along with our Badness Outta Style campaign, we want to bring a pure and healthy way of thinking into the Caribbean mainstream. We will show Caribbean people, that happy, healthy bodies lead to happy, healthy lives. Along with promoting positivity and activity, TEMPO Water will promote goodness in body and mind.
The endeavor is easily understood if we take Caribbean children as an example and how in recent years, the dietary behaviors among school children have begun to take a deadly toll on their health. The effects of their food intake range from hyperactivity and depression to obesity and diabetes. The average on‐the‐go diet may include soda, chips and candy for any student. Lack in preventative practice and health education have allowed for the easily changeable behaviors to engrave themselves in the daily lifestyle of young adolescents. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization’s study on the Bahamas, for example, “unhealthy habits of consuming excessive amounts of sugar, sugar products and fatty foods, accompanied by small intakes of fruits, vegetables, and complex carbohydrate have been established very early in life. The habits have been reported among school children, adolescents, and a large percentage of adults.” (FAO 2003)
Along with the onslaught of fast food franchises opening up in the Caribbean, there has also been an incoming trend of sugary drinks. Images of athletes and celebrities have saturated the market with promotions for the latest flavors in soft drinks. “It is very difficult for our students to walk to and from school without passing a convenience store where there are opportunities to have sugary, high‐sodium and high‐fat foods.” (Bronner, 2003). The message of healthy eating may be present in a down‐home perspective, but the celebrity voices children hear daily are heralding an opposite message. TEMPO seeks to balance the messaging!!
Supporting the Health Reforms already in place in many Caribbean nations, TEMPO CEO and Founder, Mr. Frederick A. Morton, Jr. (aka “Mr. TEMPO”) wants to continue elevating the TEMPO cause to improve the current and future health of Caribbean people. He believes that TEMPO Water is a commercially viable product that if properly marketed can help save lives by encouraging the consumption of life a saving product that’s GOOD FOR YOU….!!
Watch out, it’s TEMPO Water!
