Cricket Match Moved From Jamaica

CaribWorldNews, ROSEAU, Dominica, Thurs. May 27, 2010: Amidst a state of emergency in Kingston, Jamaica, the fifth and final One-day International, and the first Test between the West Indies and South Africa cricket teams have been moved.

The West Indies Cricket Board confirmed on Wednesday that Trinidad & Tobago will stage the matches following unrest in Kingston as thugs believed to be loyal to wanted man, Michael Christopher `Dudus` Coke clashed with law enforcement officials seeking to arrest the accused drug lord.

The ODI is now set for June 3 at Queen`s Park Oval in the T&T capital of Port of Spain while the test will be staged from June 10 to 14th.

Some 44 people have reportedly lost their lives in the Jamaica capital, following an outbreak of gun battles in the volatile West Kingston constituency since Sunday.

A two-day practice match on June 6 and 7, which was also scheduled for Jamaica has also been shifted to T&T at a venue to be confirmed at a later date, the WICB said.

This is the second time that the WICB has had to shift matches in the series. The regional governing body had to relocate the two Twenty20 Internationals and the first two ODIs between the two sides to Antigua, following the announcement of a snap general election that took place in T&T on Monday.
