Asafa Wins In Doha
CaribWorldNews, DOHA, Qatar, Sat. May 15, 2010: Jamaican Olympian Asafa Powell on Friday proved why he was formerly the world’s fastest man.
Powell recovered from a poor start to win the 100 meters in a wind-aided 9.81 seconds at the inaugural Diamond League meet in Doha Friday.
Fellow Jamaican Nesta Carter was 0.07 seconds back in second, while last year's Doha winner Travis Padgett of the United States was third.
The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, was not at the race.
`These are very good times for the first race of the season,` said Powell.
Noteworthy too is that both his performances, under all conditions, were quicker than any of his races in 2009. His mission, to `open people’s eyes` was clearly accomplished.
